The map shows the national spread of applicants for CyberFirst Girls Competition 2018, and it is clear that there is talent throughout the country. This wealth of ability and enthusiasm is not reflected in the cyber workforce, only 10% of which is female. We would like to see that change for the better.
The increase in the UK-wide number of schools taking part this year yet again showed that the shortage of female cyber security professionals is not down to a lack of interest.
We hope that the CyberFirst Girls Competition continues to grow, and in the coming years we’ll see many of the participants enjoying challenging and rewarding roles in the cyber security industry.
